The following is useful for testing pretty much anything in the memory without having to hook up a monitor and use the tools in the BIOS.
The tool below should be able to perform all of these checks and more. It requires a monitor (or VGA card), a memory stick, and free space on disk to run. The tool runs from within Windows if it’s a 64-bit OS.
I wrote this tool because I didn’t like how the different BIOS tools only tested system memory, yet the memory sticks in the places I commonly use these were in the PCMCIA slot and it’s impossible to test them with the BIOS tools. So this tool tests all of the memory.

What It Does
The tool generates a random test pattern of bytes from a set of bytes and write it into memory cells (usually SDRAM, DDRAM and RDRAM). Reading back each byte provides an indication of test reliability, according to internal or external tests results.
The tool reads a set of bytes from memory and compare it with a reference set of bytes.
Testing is performed separately for each of the 256 possible patterns of 8 bits: bit0, bit1, bit2 and bit3; bit4, bit5, bit6 and bit7; etc.
The software runs a test for N times. If at least two of the N tests have failed, the RAM testing is complete. In case of failure of all N tests, the software leaves a zero byte in each location in memory and determines the maximum value of zero test results. The maximum value of the N tests is taken into account.
Limitations of the tool
1. Test result is limited to 256 different test results, 0 and 255 are defined as non-bad patterns;
2. The tool generates 64 bit address patterns. “RightMark RAMTester Utility” is compatible only with the 32 bit mode;
3. The tool runs only one test per memory cell (in the most cases). For better results it would be better to split one test into more parts;
4. The software does not check and sort out the data from memory for you. You have to select “don’t sort data” on the options screen. This option produces a little better results.
