Difference between -f option and command line options

I’m having a problem with this problem. I am following a tutorial for the command line, however, the man for command line seems a little bit more difficult to understand than the man for Linux. However, I get most of the problem solved. What is the difference between using -f and putting the option at the end of the command.
For example, with
ls -a -l -f

I would think that the -f option takes priority over the command line. And with
ls -a -l -f

That I wouldn’t have to use the option.


With -f the ls command assumes the -f switch is on and that files named -f do not appear in the output. Without the switch, the -a and -l switches apply to the ls command, and they apply to the file names as well as directory names.
