When people say 'text editor,' the first app that comes to mind is Notepad. However, there are many alternatives that are not only better looking, but also more feature-packed, such as Sakura Editor.
Old-school GUI
The appearance of Sakura Editor might not be as shiny or polished as that of other modern utilities out there, yet it more than makes up in features.
You can start exploring them by creating a new document from scratch or by opening a compatible file from your computer (TXT, LOG, CPP, HTML,SQL, CBL, JAVA, ASM, BAT, TEX, CGI, PY, RTF, INI and so on).
Convert lettercase with hotkeys
A nifty function for a text editor is that of changing the lettercase without you needing to stop working on your project. Sakura Editor allows you to do it either using the dedicated menu entries or via hotkeys.
In other words, you can convert selected text to lower- or uppercase by simply pressing the dedicated hotkey combination (unfortunately, you cannot modify it).
Supports multiple tabs and tiles
Another useful feature of Sakura Editor is that you can open several documents at the same time and have them displayed side-by-side (the window can be split horizontally or vertically).
Alternatively, you can cascade all open windows or create tab groups.
Change the file's encoding
You can also use Sakura Editor to modify your file's encoding by re-opening it with the target one (SJIS, EUC, Latin, UTF-16, UTF-8, CESU-8 and others).
To summarize
In a nutshell, Sakura Editor can easily become your go-to solution no matter if you only want to inset the current time and date in your text document or if you simply want to open multiple tabs.
Add to that the fact that most, if not all, actions can be performed via dedicated hotkeys, and you can start to appreciate the potential of this app.

Finding the largest element that meets a given condition within each set

Given a list of sets:
L = [{‘X’: [1, 2, 3], ‘Y’: [5, 6, 7]}]

I would like to find all the sets in the list that contains the largest element of that set that is greater than 5, and return the results:
{‘X’: [1, 2, 3]}

The code I’ve come up with so far is:
if len(L) > 1:
largest = {set: L[set].sort()[0] for set in L}

But the output from this is the same set: {‘X’: [1, 2, 3]}. My question is: how do I make this a set of all the different sets that contain the largest element of that set that is greater than 5, so that I can return all of those sets to a user?
For example, if the L above is changed to:
L = [{‘X’: [4, 5, 6], ‘Y’: [7, 8, 9]}]

Then the result from this is:
{‘X’: [4, 6]}

A:

You could use a dict comprehension and use key-get, like this:
L = [{‘X’: [1, 2, 3], ‘Y’: [5, 6, 7]}]

key = lambda x: x[‘X’]

d = {s: set(x)

University of California is about to announce its biggest campus-wide hire in recent history.

The State of California Board of Regents is expected to approve an agreement that will give the UC system the power to hire a new Chancellor and top executive, sources said. But the approval hinges on the rules the regents adopt to keep the position independent of UC leadership.

“The regents are changing the rules in a significant way,” said UC spokesperson Victoria Bekolay. “The UC system has been used to not having broad delegation of authority, but this new regent-approved delegated authority would allow the chancellor to hire and fire faculty and staff.”

Although the regents are vowing to curb board interference, it’s unknown whether the new Chancellor — who will be paid from the UC system’s $7.6-billion annual budget — will have full independence from UC leadership or be subject to Senate confirmation of the president’s choice, a source said.

The Chancellor’s salary is expected to be far higher than what ex-Chancellor Nicholas Dirks received.

Richard Cortes, a UC professor who chairs a committee that advises the regents on policy, said the board is likely to approve Chancellor Ernest J. Moniz’s formal nomination next week, according to The San Jose Mercury News.

“We are hopeful that if all the criteria are met, the governor and the regents will approve his nomination to the board,” Cortes said.

The regents previously approved the first UC “delegate” in 2011, allowing then-Chancellor Robert Birgeneau to hire the provost of the UC Hastings College of the Law and other top administrators. The move was touted as a way to lessen the influence of UC regents, who have
