Elden Ring is a fantasy action/RPG with strong commentary on the nature of power and what a true hero is, on top of that it’s a really fun game and in a class of its own. The game is split up into two parts, the first is the story of Lan, a lowborn peasant who goes through a test of faith to see if he can join the ranks of the Elden, the second is his journey to become an elite member of the Elden. While I would absolutely recommend this game to anyone who enjoys fantasy based games like Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy, and Diablo, I feel as though the story is so wrapped up in its own bubble that I’d have to play the game twice to get everything out of it for someone looking for a single story. However, what the game lacks in story, it makes up for in gameplay and content. In the game, you play Lan, a lowborn peasant who goes through a test of faith to see if he can join the ranks of the Elden, a race of beings who live in the Lands Between and are supposedly the greatest heroes in the world. On the way, he will meet a range of interesting people who are all trying to accomplish their own goals and there are some things you are forced to go through on the way. For instance, you have to kill a small beast by throwing a rock at it to prove your mettle. Or maybe you fight with a gang of weaklings to prove your strength and control of the element. However, it isn’t a game that is straight forward like that. There are a wide range of options and things to try, even if they seem crazy at first. For example, one of the bosses will be in a column of water. When you first start, you’ll be forced to do them one way, but you can change it and do it another way if you change the sequence and break the block to make it easier. There are so many things like this, that I’m not even sure where to begin.
